Overview

The Holy Kailash Mansarovar Yatra is a spiritual pilgrimage that is considered very sacred by Hindus, Buddhists, and Jains. It involves circumambulating Mount Kailash, which is considered the abode of Lord Shiva, and taking a dip in the holy Mansarovar Lake. This yatra is usually done by foot or on horseback, but there are also helicopter tours available for those who cannot undertake the physical rigors of the trek.

Tour Plan

Arrival in Kathmandu, Nepal. In the afternoon, visit Pashupatinath, a Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, and receive a briefing of the upcoming program. Overnight at a hotel.
Prepare for the journey, and in the afternoon, fly to Nepalgunj, a city in western Nepal near the border with India. Overnight at a hotel.
Spend the day acclimatizing to the altitude in Purang.
Drive to Lake Mansarovar (4500m), a freshwater lake considered holy by Hindus and Buddhists, and take a holy bath. Perform a puja (worship) ceremony and spend the night at a guest house.
Drive to Yamadowar and walk to Diraphuk (4760m), a small village near Mount Kailash. Overnight at a guest house.
Trek over the Dolma La Pass (5650m), the highest point of the journey, and reach Zuthulphuk, a village on the other side of Mount Kailash. Overnight at a guest house or mud house.
Walk to Mani walls, a series of stone structures inscribed with prayers and mantras, and then drive to Darchen, a small town in western Tibet. Overnight at a hotel.
Drive back to Hilsa/Simikot via Purang. Overnight at a guest house.
Fly back to Kathmandu via Nepalgunj. Overnight at a hotel.
Departure from Kathmandu for home.
