Overview
Manang is a town in the Manang district of Nepal. It lies at 28°40’0 N 84°1’0 E and has an elevation of 3,519 meters (11,545 feet). According to the preliminary results of the 2011 Nepal Census, there are 1,495 households and 6,527 people living here. The population density is 3 people/km2. [2]
It lies in the wide valley of the Marsyangdi River, north of the Annapurna Range. The river flows east. To the west is Tron La Paz, at an altitude of 5,416 meters, leading to the Muktinath Shrine and the Gandaki River Valley. To the north is Chulu East Peak at 6,584 m (21,601 ft). Most groups trekking the Annapurna range rest in Manang for acclimatization before tackling Tron La Paz. The village is on the north slope, with the most sunlight and the least snow in winter. The cultivated land is located on the north slope with terraced fields.
